Purpose & Location

The South West Training Consortium is responsible primarily for the co-ordination of Regional learning & development initiatives for the five Probation Areas making up the South West Region of the National Probation Service (NPS). Its focus is not only on existing staff working within NPS, but also individuals wishing to pursue a career in the Service. Its primary function is to support and improve the performance of NPS Areas in their achievement of core goals relating to the reduction of offending and the harm caused to victims of crime.

The 5 South West Area Services are:-

Devon & Cornwall Probation Area

Dorset Probation Area

Gloucestershire Probation Area

Wiltshire Probation Area

The Training Consortium is also involved in learning & development provision for staff across the broader National Offender Management Service (NOMS) and third sector partners working in the Criminal Justice setting.

Through the Lead Chief Officer, John Wiseman (Chief Officer, Dorset Probation), the Training Consortium is accountable to the Regional Partnership Board, chaired by the Director of Offender Management and comprised of the Chief Officers and Board Chairs of each of the 5 Probation Areas. The TC team works to an annual Business Plan approved by the Board.
