Key Work Areas

The NVQ Centre was originally set up to support the provision of National Vocational Qualification level 4 in Community Justice required for the Diploma in Probation Studies qualification. The Centre has since been approved to run a number of NVQs in:

  • Community Justice level 3

  • Development Award (Community Justice

  • Management level 3 and 4

  • Administration level 2 and 3

  • Customer Service level 2 and 3

  • Learning and Development level 3 and 4

  • Assessor and Verifier Award

  • Substance Misuse Award (non NVQ)

The NVQs are all assessed and verified by work based staff who observe their candidates doing their job. Those assessors take part in regular standardisation meetings with other staff from across the South West Region.

The NVQ Centre is responsible for assuring quality and is approved by two awarding bodies, City and Guilds and OCR. The Centre receives visits from the external verifiers who check the quality of NVQs on a National basis.

Who can apply to undertake NVQs?
Staff working in the 5 Areas in the South West Region can apply to undertake their NVQ. Applications must be via their Training Manager and with the approval of their line manager.

External/Partner Agencies.
Staff working for other Agencies or the Voluntary and Community sector can also undertake their NVQ via the Centre but must apply direct to the NVQ Centre Manager and some costs may be incurred. Registrations are accepted once the feasibility of necessary supporting structures has been assured.

PTLLS.
The Centre also offers the five day initial teacher training qualification PTLLS: Prepare to Teach in the Lifelong Learning Sector.  This will, over time,  become an increasingly important qualification for those involved in training and development within the service.
