Welcome to the South West Training Consortium (TC) Website.

The South West Training Consortium is one of 9 TC established in 1998 and covering all National Probation Service Areas across England & Wales. Originally designed to support the newly devised qualifying training arrangements for Probation Officers – the Diploma in Probation Studies (DipPS) – the responsibilities of Training Consortia have subsequently extended within the field of Human Resource Development in accordance with National and Regional Probation priorities. The information contained on our Website is designed to provide a full picture of the role and functions that we undertake.

The South West TC is unique in that, having regard to the size and geography of our Region, its staff are based in satellite offices in various locations across the Region. Whilst there are clear connections between all aspects of Consortium work, each of our Units specialise in one or two particular areas of attention. Details of their activities can be found in the separate sections of this site.

Diversity & Learning

Diversity
“…… diversity consists of visible and non-visible differences which will include factors such as gender, age, background, race, disability, personality and workstyle. ………… ……… harnessing these differences will create a productive environment in which everyone feels valued, where their talents are being fully utilised and in which organisational goals are met.
R Kandola and J Fullerton

Learning
Learning is a process of active engagements with experience. It is what people do when they want to make sense of the world. It may involve an increase in knowledge or understanding, a deepening of values, or the capacity to reflect. Effective learning will lead to change, development and desire to learn more.
Campaign for the Learning Environment

People who stop learning, stop living.
Charles Handy
